The Theme: “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products”

Introduction:

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed annually on May 31 to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987, this day serves as a global platform to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and the business practices of tobacco companies.



Negative effects of Abusing Tobacco are:

  • Lung Cancer: Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, responsible for approximately 85% of all cases. 

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Smoking is the primary cause of COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

  • Asthma and Respiratory Infections: Smoking exacerbates asthma and increases susceptibility to respiratory infections.


🧠 Reproductive and Developmental Health

  • Pregnancy Complications: Smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of premature birth, low birth weight, and stillbirth. 

  • Fertility Issues: Smoking can reduce fertility in both men and women.



🧴 Skin and Appearance

  • Premature Aging: Smoking accelerates skin aging, leading to wrinkles and a dull complexion. 

  • Hair Loss: Nicotine can lead to hair thinning and loss.
